GALVESTON ISLAND
On September 13, 2008, Hurricane IKE hit the Galveston Island, Texas shoreline, becoming the 3rd worst damaging storm in US history.
Ray functioned as a missionary pastor on the island, by reaching out to the residents, tourists, and volunteers coming to help the island recover.
We were able to partner with other ministries to provide lodging, meals and volunteer assignments to almost 10,000 volunteers from our facility. We sent volunteer teams throughout the island to lend a helping hand in the areas of clean-up, construction, restoration of their homes, businesses... their lives.
We have found people are very touched through acts of kindness and service, (good deeds/ works) which in turn then gives us a credibility and an open door to share the Gospel message with individuals in a relative way (personalizing the Gospel).
Many people, churches and ministries worked together to make this possible.
